Music In Times Of Conflict
John Estacio - The Houses Stand Not Far Apart
Karl Jenkins - The Armed Man-A Mass For Peace
In response to the many armed conflicts in our world, Calgary author John Murrell has created a cycle of powerful poems titled “The Houses Stand Not Far Apart”. He describes how two communities separated by a river destroy each other, but he also gives expression to the hope that eventually they will find a way to coexist in peace. Together with four other Canadian choirs, the Richard Eaton Singers have commissioned the much celebrated Edmonton composer John Estacio to write music for this poetry. Together with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and the Vancouver Bach Choir they will give Edmontonians their first opportunity to hear this music. The program will be completed by another piece in the same vein by the British composer Karl Jenkins: “The Armed Man - A Mass For Peace”.
