Timothy Shantz holds a BMus in Piano Performance from Sir Wilfrid Laurier University, and an MMus in Choral Conducting from the University of Alberta. His teachers have included Victor Martens, Garth Beckett, David Falk, Noel Edison, Leonard Ratzlaff and Frieder Bernius. While in Edmonton he performed regularly with Pro Coro and Ensemble de la Rue. He appeared as soloist and chorister with the National Youth Choir in Nova Scotia (1998), the Manitoba Summer Academy Choir in Winnipeg (2000), as well as Spiritus Chamber Choir and VoiceScapes of Calgary. Mr. Shantz was choral assistant for RES during the 1997-98 season. Subsequently, he held music director and conducting positions with Hosanna Lutheran Church and St. David's Welsh Male Voice Choir.
He taught choral conducting at The King's University College in Edmonton, and directed its chamber and concert choirs. He served as Interim Conductor of the RES for the 2001-02 season. In the fall of 2002, he commenced doctoral studies at Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana.
