David Wilson
Calgarian David Wilson received his BMus from the University of Calgary in 1991, and his MMus in Choral Conducting from the University of Alberta in 2003. He has studied conducting under Jon Washburn, Wayne Riddell, Eric Ericson, Leonard Ratzlaff and Frieder Bernius. From 1991 to 2001, he was the Artistic Director of the Calgary Renaissance Singers and Players. Highlights of those years include several Alberta tours, the release of a CD, The Spirit of Musick, and the Calgary première of Thomas Tallis's Spem in Alium. From 1993-95, he was Music Director of the Début Opera Society, which performed full productions of Gilbert & Sullivan, Mozart and Puccini.
Mr. Wilson founded the Spiritus Chamber choir in 1995; this semi-professional choir received a 1999 International Contemporary A Cappella Recording Award for its performance of Anton Bruckner's Os Justi from its inaugural CD, Crossing Bridges, and was a semi-finalist in the CBC National Choral Competition 2000. It released its second CD, Never the Same River Twice in 2001. In 1999, Mr. Wilson received an Alberta Choral Federation Con Spirito Award in recognition of his contributions to choral music in Alberta.
He served RES as Choral Assistant during the choir's 2002-03 season, and was appointed Associate Conductor for 2003-04.
Since 2003, he has worked with the Edmonton Recorder Orchestra as conductor and clinician. Mr. Wilson is currently teaching Choral 10/20/30 at Concordia High School in Edmonton, is the bass section lead and guest conductor at Robertson-Wesley United Church, and the Associate Director of the Da Camera Singers. In addition to his busy vocal studio, he is in demand as a vocal and choral clinician throughout Canada. Mr. Wilson is a certified yoga Instructor and breath therapist who focuses on the relationship between breath, voice, body and emotion, assisting with vocal, physical and psychological ailments relating to the performing arts.
