RES Education Program
The RES Education Program offers junior- and senior-high school students the opportunity to experience a choral music concert at the Francis Winspear Centre for Music. Students are invited to attend a dress rehearsal performance, with pizza beforehand and a fun, interactive presentation, all free of charge.
Ruth Watson Henderson with Barrie Stinson
Past presentations have included a chance to meet composers Christos Hatzis (composer of Sepulcher of Life, commissioned by RES) and Ruth Watson Henderson (whose From Darkness to Light was given its Western Canadian première in January 2005), as well as RES music director and conductor Leonard Ratzlaff.
Some comments from students who have attended past presentations:
- "It was excellent to meet the composer and hear his description of his pieces. I enjoyed the enthusiastic presentation on Vaughan Williams. The concert was very enjoyable and Sepulcher of Life was very interesting and enjoyable to listen to, especially the 'life' solo!"
- "Thanks for the opportunity … it was wonderful."
- "Thank you for inviting us to listen to your gift of music. I thought it was wonderful to meet Ruth Watson Henderson."
- "You guys rock!"
- "This program was very inspiring. You should continue to offer this sort of opportunity to kids. I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did!"
