Welcome to the Richard Eaton Singers

Richard Eaton SingersThe Richard Eaton Singers (RES), Edmonton's premier symphonic choir, has played a leading role in our community's cultural scene for over five decades.

Founded in 1951 by Richard S. Eaton, first Chair of the Department of Music at the University of Alberta, the choir was originally named the University Singers. In its early years, the choir drew its membership largely from the university community, including alumni of the University of Alberta Mixed Chorus.

The choir presents its own season of concerts each year in addition to performing with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and others. RES is a versatile group, capable of performing a diversity of music including classics such as Handel’s Messiah, Beethoven’s Symphony #9 and Brahms’ Requiem, in addition to traditional folk songs, spirituals, Christmas pops and a variety of Broadway musical pieces.

In 2006, the Choir celebrated 25 years under the very capable leadership of our Music Director, Dr. Leonard Ratzlaff. For his 25th Anniversary performance, Dr. Ratzlaff chose “The Dream of Gerontius” by Edward Elgar which was performed on April 30, 2006. We are fortunate to continue our tradition of performing the great works of the choral repertoire under his leadership.
